This is not a model but an accessory for the plastic kit of the German battleship Tirpitz. The set contains a thin veneer of real wood printed with the laying of the deck planks and with an adhesive layer on the back. It is cut to the shape of the Revell 05096 kit, so check the match with your own model before you order.
The most common mistake when gluing a wooden deck down is tearing the whole protective film off at once. A large piece with the adhesive back exposed over its entire area sticks instantly and at the point of first contact, so there is no second attempt at lining it up and the veneer tears when you peel it off. The correct procedure is the opposite: lay the piece dry, line it up along the centerline and the openings, hold it in place and release the film over just a few centimeters at one edge. Press the veneer down there, then pull the film out from under the piece bit by bit and press the deck down progressively away from the glued edge. On large areas a second hand or a strip of masking tape that temporarily fixes the piece at the edge helps.
The plastic under the veneer has to be smooth and degreased, otherwise the corners will lift in time. Once it is glued down, the wood can be lightly unified with thinned wood stain, the seams are brought out with a thin dark wash and the finished surface is protected with a thin coat of matte varnish.
The accessory is supplied separately. The kit, paints and varnish are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
