An injection-molded plastic kit of the British Fairey Swordfish carrier torpedo aircraft in the small 1:350 scale from Trumpeter. The box contains a set of miniature aircraft used to populate the decks of aircraft carrier models and to bring naval scenes to life. Given the very small scale, this is an accessory to ship models rather than a large aircraft model in its own right.
The Fairey Swordfish was a British carrier torpedo biplane, nicknamed the Stringbag. Although it looked obsolete when the Second World War broke out, it achieved remarkable successes — it became famous for the attack on the Italian fleet at Taranto and for its part in the sinking of the battleship Bismarck. Besides torpedo work it also served on anti-submarine patrol and training duties, and it stayed in naval service surprisingly long.
In 1:350 scale the parts are very small — work with a sharp blade, tweezers and a magnifier and cut the individual pieces from the sprue carefully. Super glue (cyanoacrylate) suits the small parts as well. Spray a primer over the aircraft, lay the shades down with an airbrush or a fine brush and finish the small markings with decals. On a ship's deck they come into their own once posed realistically.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
