This is not a ship kit but a narrowly focused accessory set of photo-etched metal parts. The base model of the aircraft carrier in 1:350 scale has to be obtained separately. According to the name, the set deals with the rear support columns, that is the load-bearing structure under the overhang of the flight deck at the stern. The extent of the parts is not stated here; you will find the list in the instructions enclosed with the set.
On this ship the flight deck overhangs the hull and is carried by a slender lattice structure. A structure like that cannot be made in injection-molded plastic, because the parts would have to be several times thicker than the scale calls for and the individual struts would merge into a block. Photo-etched metal solves it: the members are thin, the gaps between them really are see-through and the stern of the model gains a lightness that the plastic version lacks. On a model in 1:350 scale this is one of the most exposed places to the eye.
The original plastic structure usually has to be removed; work with a scriber and a file, not with force. Separate the photo-etched parts with a scalpel on a hard surface and bend them in a bending tool, because lattice items are easily twisted if you press on them unevenly. Glue with cyanoacrylate in minute drops applied with a toothpick. Paint the columns separately from the hull and join them only once the paint has dried. Protect the finished model from dust, because thin latticework is very hard to clean.
This is an accessory set, not a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
