Fujimi 1:350 IJN Shimakaze Warship Next — a large model of the legendary experimental destroyer in her state on entering service. Parts molded in color, a build without glue and painting.
Responsibility details are not available.
A large kit of the famous Japanese destroyer Shimakaze from the manufacturer Fujimi in the Warship Next line in 1:350 scale. The parts are molded in color and snap together — so even a sizeable model can be finished without glue and painting. This version captures the ship in her state on entering service in 1943.
Shimakaze was an experimental destroyer meant to prove the concept of an exceptionally fast torpedo ship. Thanks to her powerful machinery she reached a speed of over 40 knots on trials and carried the heaviest torpedo armament among Japanese destroyers: fifteen 610 mm torpedo tubes in three five-tube mounts for the feared Type 93 oxygen torpedoes. Because of wartime priorities she remained the only completed ship of her type. She was lost in November 1944 during air raids in Ormoc Bay off the Philippines.
The 1:350 scale lets the detail of the torpedo tubes and the gun turrets stand out — separate the parts carefully and clean the edges up. The model will be lifted further by a fine wash, toning of the deck and add-on photo-etched railings; a water base with a wake suggesting the high speed of the ship is striking too.
The kit is supplied unassembled. The parts are molded in color and snap together without glue; paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
