USS Missouri, with the hull number BB-63, is an American battleship of the Iowa class, the last generation of American battleships. She entered service at the close of the Second World War and is remembered above all because the surrender of Japan was signed on her deck in September 1945. After several upgrades she served for a long time after the war and today she is a museum ship. For the modeler she is a rewarding subject: a long hull, massive gun turrets and a densely built superstructure full of walkways, ladders and antennas.
The set is made up of photo-etched metal parts for a model in 1:350 scale. It is precisely on ships that photo-etched parts are the most effective accessory of all, because railings, walkways, ladders and gratings cannot be made thin enough in injection-molded plastic and look coarse on a finished model. The extent of the set and the order of assembly follow the instructions enclosed in the package.
The parts are attached to the carrier fret by thin tabs. Cut through them with a sharp blade on a hard surface rather than breaking them out, and level the remainder with a file. Bend longer railings slowly and in sections, so that they do not ripple. The metal parts are glued with cyanoacrylate glue. Before painting, degrease the surface and use a base coat intended for metal, otherwise the paint will not hold on smooth metal and will rub off during handling.
The set is for builders of ship models who have already worked with photo-etched parts and have tweezers, a sharp blade and ideally a bender as well. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
