Photo-etched sundry baskets for American warships in 1:350 from Flyhawk are an accessory for a model with which decks and railings are fitted out. It is not a ship kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a photo-etched fret for ship models in 1:350. The subject is the wire sundry baskets that were used on the decks of American warships of the Second World War to stow small materiel and equipment. They were usually placed on railings, on the walls of superstructures and by working positions. On a model it is details like these that give a deck a lived-in look and set a finished model apart from a bare kit.
A wire basket is an object that cannot be imitated in injection-molded plastic in 1:350 at all, because its mesh would have to be thicker than the basket itself. Etched metal, by contrast, makes it possible to etch the mesh at a scale thickness, and the basket is then simply folded to shape. The exact number of parts on the fret is stated on the packaging of the set.
Cut the parts off with a sharp scalpel or photo-etch nippers against a hard surface; never break them out with your fingers, as they deform. Make the folds along the scored lines on the reverse of the part, ideally in a bending tool. It is bonded with cyanoacrylate glue applied with a pin in a minimal amount; any excess runs into the mesh and blocks it. It pays to paint them while still on the fret and then touch in only the cut points. Degrease the metal before painting and use a primer for metal.
This is a photo-etched accessory for a model, not a kit in its own right. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
