1:35 Curtains

Curtains for a diorama in 1:35 scale

Motifs of household curtains in 1:35 scale. They come into their own at windows and at door openings, both in a tidy room and in a house of which only part of a wall is left.

A curtain in the rubble

A damaged house is recognized by small things, not by the amount of rubble. A piece of curtain hanging from a broken window does more for the impression than another pile of bricks: from it the viewer sees that someone was still living here until recently, and places the scene in time at once. A single such feature on the whole building works best. When there are torn curtains in every window, the scene falls apart into a series of identical effects and stops looking believable. And an intact curtain in the window of a house that the action in the scene has not yet touched serves just as well.

How to age a curtain

• Tear the edge irregularly; a straight cut in a torn curtain gives the scissors away.
• Dirty it from the lower edge upward, as dirt clings near the ground.
• Knock a light curtain back with a thin glaze in the shade that prevails in the scene.
• Leave one edge free and stick the other down firmly, which gives the surface movement.
• Try the paint, the glaze and the glue on an offcut first and follow the maker's instructions.

Who the set is for

For builders of military and civilian dioramas in 1:35 scale who work with buildings and are looking for a small feature with a story for their windows. The building, the figures, the paints and the glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
