The accessory from the ETA diorama brand offers a tiled floor in 1:35 size and differs from the ordinary tile decors precisely in its glossy rendering, which it has right in the name. Gloss changes how a surface behaves in a display case: the surface reflects light, so a scene looks cleaner and more formal than with a matte surface. It is not a kit but a ready surface.
A reflective floor belongs where there should be order. An entrance hall, a station concourse, a surgery, a store, the corridor of an office or a bathroom: in such spaces polished tiling is normal and the viewer reads it as a sign that the building is cared for. At the same time it contrasts strongly with figures in muddy gear, which is one of the most effective ways of telling a story in a scene without a single word.
A glossy surface is best protected from fingerprints, so handle it through paper and leave the last touches until the end of the build. Try the reflection in the display case dry, because a harsh light from above can turn gloss into a single white patch; tilting the scene or moving the light source will help. If the gloss is too strong for your scene, mute it locally with fine dust in the corners and along the plinths. Do not mute the gloss across the whole area at once, or you will lose the main advantage of this variant.
The goods serve to finish a scene off, not to build a model. The package does not include a base, fixings or means for weathering, unless stated otherwise.
