The 911 Guards 80K Red modeling paint from Number Five is based on the factory red that Porsche applied to the 911 from the 1970s onward.

The 911 Guards 80K Red shade rests on the factory red of Porsche, called Indischrot in German and Guards Red in English. It is not a general signal red, as it has a markedly warm tone shifted slightly toward orange, thanks to which it does not look flat on the rounded flanks of a 911.
Guards Red appeared in the Porsche range in the 1970s and stayed on the price list for many years, so it passed over the bodies of the G series, the 964 and the 993. It became most strongly associated with the Turbo of the 930 generation and with the Carrera 3.2 of the 1980s, where it was complemented by black trim, gold lettering and, on the Turbo, wide rear fenders with a pronounced wing. It was on these cars that it became the shade a person recalls sooner than any other paint of the marque from Zuffenhausen. Among the brand's other shades it is recognized at first glance, and collectors take it as part of the character of the car.
A modeler who builds road-going Porsches and wants to be sure the red matches the period subject rather than a guess from a photograph will reach for it. It serves just as well for unifying a body and small parts when a model is put together from several sources. The subject is the paint of road-going 911s rather than of racing machines, so the tone suits cars with chrome frames and polished light covers rather than machines with race numbers.
