The green 400 Superamerica Green shade from Number Five comes from the color of the luxury Ferrari 400 Superamerica coupe of the turn of the 1950s and 1960s.

Number Five names its shades after real cars, and this one rests on the 400 Superamerica. It is not a racing color but the paint of a civilian coupe that wealthy customers had built to order. Green is therefore no eccentricity on this type: a Superamerica was ordered one example at a time, and red was only one of many ways to turn out a car from Maranello.
The Ferrari 400 Superamerica was built between 1959 and 1964 and only a few dozen were made. Under the hood the car had a four-liter V12 of Gioacchino Colombo's design, and Pininfarina drew and built the body. Its best-known form is the Coupé Aerodinamico with an extended nose, headlights recessed under clear covers and a low roofline. The Superamerica stood at the top of the brand's range of the time, markedly above the ordinary 250 series models, and it was a car for a few dozen selected clients.
Modelers of road-going Italian cars who do not want their whole display case in one tone will reach for it. Customers often ordered green on a Superamerica together with a light leather interior, because every car was made to the wishes of a particular owner. Neither a standard number nor a period factory name of the paint appears in the name of the product, so take the shade as an interpretation of the color of the car rather than as proof of a match with an archive chart.
