641/2 F1-90 Red is the red of the Ferrari formula car of the 1990 season, with which Alain Prost fought for the title right to the end of the championship.
Responsibility details are not available.
The shade is tied to one particular car and one particular season. The red formula car of 1990 is among the most frequently built single-seaters of all, so it makes sense to have at hand a color that aims straight at it rather than a general red for any car.
The Ferrari designated 641, internally F1-90, was created for the 1990 season and Alain Prost and Nigel Mansell drove it. The power unit was a V12 of 3.5 liters, and the shifting was handled by a semi-automatic gearbox operated by paddles at the steering wheel, which the team had introduced a year earlier. Prost won five grands prix with the car, and the fight for the championship title was settled only by a collision in the penultimate race of the year. The car is so highly valued on the visual side as well that it made its way into the collection of a museum of modern art. It entered the season as a continuation of the previous type, and its refined aerodynamics made it one of the handsomest single-seaters of the turn of the decade.
For builders of formula models who are looking for a period red for a period car and do not want to rely on one red doing everything. On the single-seater the red was complemented by white numbers, a dark front wing and a yellow badge, so there are more colored areas on a model than it seems.
