Katana GSX Silver is the silver shade of the bodywork of the Suzuki Katana motorcycle, whose shape divided riders into two camps at the beginning of the 1980s.
Responsibility details are not available.
The silver Katana GSX Silver refers to the bodywork of the Japanese Suzuki Katana motorcycle. On its angular front fairing and tank it was not a classic mirror chrome but a light metallic tone with a calmer character, which underlined the impression of brushed metal. On the real subject the light metallic tone reached from the front fairing across the tank to the side covers, so on a model it is one of the largest continuous surfaces.
The Katana appeared at the beginning of the 1980s and its look was designed by a German studio led by Hans Muth. Against the production of the time it looked as if from another era: a sharp front fairing passed smoothly into the tank, the seat had a pronounced step and the whole was deliberately inspired by the shape of a Japanese sword. Under the bodywork worked a large-displacement air-cooled four-cylinder. The motorcycle became an icon and the brand quotes its silhouette on modern machines too.
It will be reached for by builders of motorcycle models and by anyone looking for a light metallic color for larger continuous surfaces. It will also be used with dioramas, where metal on machines is meant to be clearly set apart from chrome-plated parts and from painted sections. It will do good service with restorations of older models too, where the metallic tone on some of the parts has aged and needs unifying.
