Black

Number Five Black

A modeling paint from the Spanish brand Number Five in a bottle of 30 milliliters. A black shade is the basis of every set of paints: it is used on frames, chassis, interiors and tires and as a ground under metallic and transparent shades. The paint is supplied at a consistency ready for spraying with an airbrush.

How to work with black on a model

Pure black is treacherous on a scale model. A surface painted with it loses its shape, because no shadow and no reflection can be seen in it, and the model then looks like a silhouette. The proven procedure is to use black as a base and then lighten the surfaces with a thin coat of very dark gray where the light falls. As a ground under metallic shades, on the other hand, black is irreplaceable, because it gives them depth.

How to work with the paint

• Shake the bottle thoroughly before use, as the pigment settles to the bottom
• The paint is supplied at a consistency ready for spraying and further thinning is usually not needed
• It should be thinned and cleaned up exclusively with the thinner and cleaner of the same brand
• Apply it in several thin coats and let them flash off
• Under metallic shades black works as a ground that gives them depth

Who the paint is for

• Builders of car and motorcycle models
• Modelers who want an exact shade without mixing
• Anyone who paints with an airbrush and does not want to hunt for a thinning ratio

Safety note

Work in a well-ventilated space and use a respirator when spraying, as an aerosol forms. Keep out of the reach of children and away from sources of ignition, close the bottle carefully after use and avoid contact with eyes and skin.
