A light aluminum gray from the range of the Number 5 brand, carried according to the RAL standard under the number 9006. The shade bears its name after the metal and matches its light cool tone, so on a model it suits everywhere a surface is meant to come across as untreated metal.
Most often on surfaces that are meant to call bare metal to mind: on the fuselages of aircraft without a covering coat, on parts of landing gear, on rims, on machinery assemblies and on industrial equipment. In the RAL range it is a classic shade, so it creates the metallic impression above all by its tone. On a model it suits as well where bare metal is meant to come across as calm and matter-of-fact, without the sharp highlight that would draw attention before the shape of the machine does.
Shake the container thoroughly before use and stir the contents through. Apply in several thin layers and let the surface flash off between them; a heavy application floods the engraving of the panel lines and gathers into runs at the edges. Choose the thinner according to the maker's instructions, as one from another line will curdle the paint and the application will come out grainy. A light shade will show the flaws of the surface beneath, so wash the model before painting, degrease it and even out the filled places with a base color. Shades of bare metal only come alive once you emphasize the panel lines with a dark wash and set the individual panels gently apart from one another.
For builders of aircraft, vehicles and machines who need a calm light metallic tone without an ostentatious gloss. A model, a base color, thinner and clear varnish are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
