The YPB-10 with a groove of one millimeter

A WING series tool of tungsten steel whose track is a full millimeter wide. This is no longer a panel line in the usual sense but a distinct groove that a customer will see with the naked eye from several paces away. The series runs from 0.1 mm up to exactly here and on to the widest size, so this is the upper part of the range, bought rather by builders of large subjects.

Where a one-millimeter groove makes sense

It is most often used on robot and fantasy subjects, where the shaping is built on a prominent division of armor plates. It also comes into its own as a guide cut before a part is sawn through: once the path is set, it holds a saw or a knife on line and the edge then comes out more precisely than when cutting freehand. That saves work on leveling later.

Rules for safe work

• Hold the part in a firm jig, not in your fingers.
• Proceed in short strokes and inspect the path between them.
• On thin walls choose a narrower tool instead.
• Extract or sweep the waste away; do not blow it into your eyes.
• Store the tip with its cover on; the edge is then less likely to be damaged.

Suitability for materials

It will cope with polystyrene and with hard resin and equally with 3D-printed components, where the surface tends to be uneven and an ordinary knife slides over it. The smoothly finished sides of the tool suppress that sliding. The shank measures 3.175 mm in diameter and the holder is obtained separately according to your own choice.
