The A-10A Thunderbolt II was created for a single task: supporting troops on the ground. The structure matches that. The whole nose is built around the seven-barrel 30 mm cannon, the pilot sits in a tub of armor plates and the machine takes hits after which another aircraft would not get home. The result is an angular, functional shape without ornament, on which small metal panels and grilles are clearly visible, and in 1:48 scale it is exactly those that photo-etch takes care of.
This is a photo-etched accessory set for the A-10A model in 1:48 scale. The etched parts are made from a thin metal sheet, so in thickness they come far closer to the sheet metal of the real subject than a plastic part, which has to be thicker for production reasons.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface, not by tearing them out, otherwise they twist straight away. Level the remains of the tab with a fine file. Make the bends in a bending tool or between two razor blades, so the edge is straight along its whole length. Metal holds only on cyanoacrylate glue, which you should apply in a really small amount, best of all with the tip of a toothpick. Before painting, wash and degrease the parts and use a primer suitable for metal, otherwise the paint will not take on the smooth surface. Lay small parts out on a tray beforehand and work with fine-tipped tweezers.
For modelers who are building the A-10 in 1:48 scale and want to add fine metal parts to the model. Check which kit the set is cut for in the manufacturer's instructions. The set is an accessory to a kit; paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
