About product

Douglas A-26C-15 Invader 1:48: a New Ware masking set, the EXPERT level

The set brings pre-cut self-adhesive kabuki paper masks for a model of the Douglas Invader twin-engine attack bomber in the version with a glazed nose, in 1:48 scale. According to its name it is tied to color schemes number 1 and 2, that is to two particular variants of finish, and it carries the designation EXPERT, which with this manufacturer is a higher grade than the entry line. It is an accessory for a model, not the model itself.

The real subject

The Invader was an American twin-engine attack and bombing aircraft with a pair of radial engines, which reached combat only at the end of the Second World War and then served for a long time afterwards. The version with the letter C in its designation had a glazed nose for a navigator and a bombardier, unlike the configuration with a solid nose fitted with gun armament. The glazed nose is exactly the area where a masking set pays off most: it combines flat panes, angled frames and the transition into the outline of the fuselage, where tape cut to size is very hard to stick down.

How to work with the masks

Work from the largest areas to the smallest and press each mask down around its whole perimeter, especially in the corners of the panes. Cover the remaining uncovered areas of the glazing, the inside of the pilot's cabin for instance, with ordinary tape or fill them with liquid mask. With two color schemes it pays to decide in advance which one you are building and to choose the order of the shades accordingly: the lighter one first, then the darker. Check the edge of the mask against the light once more after spraying, before you start varnishing the gloss under the decals.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of American twin-engine bombers in 1:48 scale.
  • Modelers who want clean frame edges on an extensive glazed nose.
  • Those building a particular color scheme who want the masking prepared in advance.
  • More advanced modelers working with an airbrush.

The package contains masks only. The kit, the paints, the glue and the decals are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. It is a standalone masking set made for a model you already have. The kit, the paints and the glue are not in the package.

The set is prepared for two particular variants of finish, numbered according to the references it is cut to. If you are building a different scheme, look for the corresponding sheet.

With this manufacturer EXPERT is a higher grade of the range and it tends to be more extensive than the entry variant. The scope of this sheet is stated on the packaging of the set.

Shortly after the varnish has dried, with a pull at an angle toward yourself. If the paint did seep under somewhere, fix it by scratching with a toothpick once it has dried, not with solvent.
