CMK 1:48 A-36 / P-51 / P-51A Mustang Cockpit is a resin replacement cockpit for models of the early Allison-engined Mustangs in 1:48 scale. An accessory for a plastic kit, not a stand-alone model.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set is aimed at the first generation of the Mustang - the A-36, P-51 and P-51A versions, that is, the Allison-engined machines, which differ from later versions in their cockpit equipment as well. The resin cockpit replaces the plastic interior from the kit and brings sharper detail than an injection mold can produce: thinner side walls, three-dimensional instruments and fine controls.
The resin castings sit on casting blocks. These are cut off with a fine-toothed saw, not with nippers, which crush the material. Sand the remains of the block flat and then wash all the parts in warm soapy water - mold release agent from the mold tends to be left on the surface, and paint does not hold on it. Sand wet and with your airways protected.
Resin is glued with super glue, so precision is needed the first time; assemble the cockpit dry first and try whether the fuselage can be closed once it is in. Material usually has to be removed from the inner walls of the plastic halves - work a little at a time and keep trying. Start painting with a primer, then the base interior shade, a dark wash into the recesses and a lighter dry brush on the edges. Finish the instruments last, as a drop of gloss varnish on a dial gives the impression of glass.
This is an accessory, not an aircraft kit. The basic model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
