A set of masks for the late A6M5c version of the Zero in 1:48 scale. It contains films for both faces of the glazing and two sets for the national insignia.
Responsibility details are not available.
The A6M5c version came about at the moment when the Japanese fighter arm was chasing a lost lead. It received heavier armament, an armor plate behind the pilot and a strengthened wing skin, and paid for that with the agility for which the original Zero had become famous. The glazing stayed long and busy, so a model wrestles with it in exactly the same way as with its predecessors. For a builder it is therefore a well-known shape, only with a different character of aircraft behind it.
The second classic accident comes only at the end of the work. The film is torn off too abruptly and takes a strip of dried paint from the frame with it, sometimes together with the layer beneath. Most such cases are caused by a base that was not degreased, or by a mask that lay on the model for whole weeks and had time to bake under a lamp. Peel it off slowly, then, at an acute angle back over itself, and never straight upwards.
A pulled-away piece is made good with a brush, not with an airbrush. Break the tip of a thin round brush into a wedge so that it holds the paint on the edge, and apply it in thin coats with pauses until the height matches its surroundings. Even the transition out at the end with light polishing using very fine abrasive paper and a matte coat.
A pair of films covers the canopy from outside and from the inner face and two sets are intended for the national insignia. For the build itself a plastic model of the matching version in 1:48 is needed.
