1:48 AD-5 Skyraider, glazing mask for the two-seat variant with side-by-side seats.
Responsibility details are not available.
A glazing mask for the two-seat AD-5 Skyraider in 1:48 scale. This variant has a markedly wider cockpit than the single-seat machines, so covering it by hand takes considerably longer than one would expect. A ready-made stencil turns it into an afternoon of work.
The AD-5 differs from the other Skyraiders at first glance: the fuselage received a wider nose with two seats side by side, it grew longer and a taller vertical tail appeared. The space behind the crew could be used for further people, cargo or special equipment, so a single-purpose attack machine became a universal one. It kept its armament in the wing and its ability to carry heavy external stores, and so it served for attack, for training and for auxiliary tasks. That is exactly why it has so many glazed areas, and covering them is among the most laborious parts of the build.
With extensive glazing it pays to spray in stages and to protect the already painted area in between. Apply the paint in several thin coats; a heavy coat breaks at the edge of the stencil and comes away with it. Peel the stencil off slowly and at an angle away from the edge of the frame, so that the finish does not lift. Consider the order of the build as well, because the cockpit frame is easier to paint while the surrounding parts are not in the way.
