A resin detail set from Metallic Details in 1:48 scale. It concentrates on the main rotor of the Aérospatiale AS.365 Dauphin multi-purpose helicopter, that is on the rotor head and its surroundings. The rotor head is the typical weak spot of injection-molded kits of helicopters - it is a tangle of links, hinges and dampers that a plastic mold can only manage in a simplified form. It is not a kit of the helicopter but an accessory to a model you already own.
The Aérospatiale AS.365 Dauphin is a French twin-engine multi-purpose helicopter that appeared in the 1970s and in various versions still serves today in civil and state operation, from rescue services to coastal patrol work. The identifying marks of the type are the shrouded tail rotor and the aerodynamically clean fuselage. The main rotor is a multi-blade one and its head sits high above the fuselage, so it is clearly visible on a model from above and from the side - unlike aircraft, where similar details hide under a cowling.
Wash the castings in warm water with detergent to remove the mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a cutter; on the thin links work in small steps so that the part does not crack. Then level the surfaces with abrasive paper, sand wet and protect your airways. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, on small joints with an accelerator. Apply a primer before painting. The rotor head is usually sprayed with a combination of metal and dark shades and tied together after drying with a dark wash that runs into the hinges and the shadows. Spray the blades separately and fit them right at the end, so that they do not bend during handling.
This is a detail accessory, not a stand-alone model. The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted; the kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
