The AH-1Z is a US Marine Corps attack helicopter, the final development branch of the Cobra line. Its crew consists of two men seated in tandem, each in his own cockpit with extensive instrumentation and large-area displays. The glazing is large and segmented, so the interior remains clearly visible from both sides on the finished model.
The set consists of colored, three-dimensional interior elements printed on decal paper. They have pre-printed shades, markings and shading and carry real thickness, so they replace the flat printing of plastic parts. This is a reduced-scope version of the set, focused on the most visible spots of both cockpits, chiefly the instrument panels, side consoles and seats. The design matches KittyHawk kits.
Soak the sheet briefly in lukewarm water and slide the element off the backing paper; it has no adhesive layer of its own and adheres to a gloss finish — a matte base is a mistake. Do not use a decal softener, since it will damage the printed resin. Degrease the surface underneath, level it and remove any raised plastic details that the elements are meant to replace. Transfer the parts with tweezers and press them down with a soft tool. Paint the interior of the cockpits before you start placing the elements, since you will no longer be able to reach the walls with a brush once they are glued down.
The set suits modelers who want accurate cockpits under the large glazing and do not want to paint dozens of tiny instruments. The work is simpler than assembling photo-etched parts and is manageable even for a less experienced builder. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
