The 1:48 Ammunition for 5 cm Pak 38 set is a modeling accessory, not a kit. It contains miniatures of rounds for the German 5 cm PaK 38 antitank gun in 1:48 scale. You will use them to fill ammunition racks and boxes, to place around a firing position, or as a small detail in a diorama.
The 5 cm PaK 38 was a German towed antitank gun of 50 mm caliber with a long barrel, introduced at the beginning of the 1940s as the successor to the weaker 3.7 cm PaK 36. It fired fixed ammunition, that is a shell firmly joined to the cartridge case; beside the ordinary Pz.Gr. 39 armor-piercing shell its outfit also included the sub-caliber Pz.Gr. 40 and a high-explosive shell. For the modeler what matters is that the whole round is therefore one piece and that by the gun as well as inside vehicles it was stowed in wooden boxes and metal racks.
Separate the parts with a sharp scalpel, sand the residue from production back and degrease the surface. Paint the cartridge case in a brass shade, leave the shell darker and more matte and suggest the colored band with a fine brush. The brass gains depth from a thin brown wash, which is wiped off once it has set. Inside a model it is enough to paint only the visible layer; in an open scene, on the other hand, it pays to add a little dust with a dry pigment on the lower part.
The set is supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
