Quinta Studio 1:48 Arado Ar 68 E/F is a three-dimensional (3D) interior decal for the German biplane fighter of the 1930s in 1:48 scale. The open cockpit thereby gains color as well as raised detail. Base kit: Roden.
Responsibility details are not available.
This item is not a model of the aircraft but an accessory set. Quinta Studio prints the interior elements three-dimensionally and already in color onto decal paper, so the instrument panel, the side walls of the cockpit, the controls and the seat belts have depth and a color finish with no hand painting. On a biplane with an open cockpit the interior is visible in its entirety, so detail is essentially compulsory. The decals are shaped for the parts of the Roden kit.
The Arado Ar 68 is a German single-engine biplane fighter of the mid-1930s, of metal construction with fabric covering and with fixed landing gear. It was built in two main forms that differed in their powerplant: the version designated E used a Junkers Jumo V12 engine, the F version the older BMW engine. The type belonged to the last period of biplane fighters and was soon replaced by monoplanes; in the training role, however, it served for a long time yet. The cockpit is open, with a simple instrument panel and the inner structure of the fuselage in view.
Quinta three-dimensional decals are not classic wet decals, but they do need water: the part is immersed in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slid off the decal backing paper. It has no adhesive layer of its own and holds on gloss varnish, so it is seated on a painted, degreased interior surface gone over with gloss varnish. Do not use a decal softener or a setting solution at all, as their chemicals would damage the printed resin layer and ruin the part. So spray the cockpit first and let the paint cure thoroughly. The exact order of the steps is given in the instructions enclosed with the set. Move the parts with smooth-jawed tweezers, fine-tune the position while the part still slides, and blot the excess water away with a cotton bud from the side. Because the cockpit is open, it pays to finish the interior with a matte varnish and a fine dust shade into the corners.
This is not a kit of the aircraft but an accessory set. The base model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
