Big Ed is a range from the Czech maker Eduard of Obrnice near Most in which several separately sold detail sets for the same model are brought together in one package. The customer thus gets a complete package of accessories all at once. This item is the second part of the collection for the four-engine B-17F bomber in 1:48 scale; on large aircraft Eduard commonly divides a collection into several parts, because a single set would be unmanageable in the sheer number of parts. The exact make-up of the package is not stated here, so before buying check which particular subsets it holds and whether they follow on from the part you already have.
The Boeing B-17F was one of the main production versions of the four-engine bomber known as the Flying Fortress. It differed from the previous version above all in reworked nose glazing, changes to the engine nacelles and a gradual strengthening of the defensive armament through the production batches. It was used in daylight bombing operations over Europe, and its large, heavily divided airframe offers a modeler an extraordinary number of surfaces where detail sets will show, from the cockpit through the bomb bay and the gun positions to the landing gear bays and the engine nacelles.
Work through the individual subassemblies and fit the accessories before you close the fuselage and the wing: on a large bomber later access to the interior is practically impossible. Bend photo-etched parts over a metal edge or in a bending tool, not with your fingers. Do not sand or varnish color printed photo-etched parts with aggressive varnishes. Glue the attachments with cyanoacrylate in a small amount, so that clear parts are not fogged. Before you close the assemblies up, check dry that the added thickness of the photo-etch does not stop the halves from sitting down. It is sensible to finish and weather the interior spaces before fitting them.
