An accessory set for the B-17G bomber in 1:48 scale: the bombardier position in the nose and the chin turret. Intended for the kit by HK Model.
Responsibility details are not available.
The B-17G was the last and the most numerous version of the American four-engine heavy bomber. What tells it from the older forms at first glance is the chin turret with two machine guns slung under the nose, meant to cover the most vulnerable direction of attack, that is the head-on one. Directly behind it the bombardier worked at his sight, and in combat he also manned the side guns. The turret was operated remotely from his position, so nobody actually sat in it.
The set focuses on exactly this part of the aircraft: the bombardier position and the chin turret. The glazed nose is the most visible part of a B-17G and a plastic kit simplifies it for obvious reasons, so a replacement shows on a finished model more than modifications hidden inside the fuselage. The set is shaped for the kit by HK Model in 1:48 scale. The exact extent of the parts and the recommended order of assembly are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The parts are not polystyrene, and an ordinary glue for plastic models has no effect on them. Glue them with cyanoacrylate glue in small drops. Cut the excess material and the marks left by production away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder. Before painting, wash and degrease the parts, otherwise the paint will hold badly on a smooth surface. Paint the inside of the nose and try it dry before you fit the glazing, because after that you cannot get inside.
The set serves as an accessory to a kit in 1:48 scale. Paints, glue and filler are not part of the package, unless stated otherwise.
