It is not a kit of an aircraft; it is a detail accessory with which the plastic wheels from the basic kit are replaced. The masks serve to separate the tire from the hub while painting. On aircraft models the wheels are a small but very visible detail. Injection-molded plastic wheels tend to have a parting seam in the middle of the tread and a softly rendered tread pattern. Resin castings have a crisp tread pattern and legible raised lettering on the sidewall. The enclosed masks then simplify the most tiresome part of the work: the clean edge between the dark tire and the light hub, which is practically impossible to make straight with a brush. The early version designation refers to a particular form of the wheels; how it differs from the later variant is stated by the manufacturer on the box.
The B-26K Invader was a deeply rebuilt twin-engine attack aircraft with piston engines, adapted for use in low-intensity conflicts in the 1960s. The rebuild included a strengthened airframe structure, new engines and propellers, wingtip tanks and reworked armament. It was precisely the strengthened airframe and the higher takeoff weight that placed increased demands on the landing gear and the tires.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water. On wheels the casting block tends to be on the contact surface: cut it off with a saw and level the surface on sandpaper laid on a board, so that the wheel sits flat. When sanding resin, work wet and protect your airways. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). First spray the lighter shade of the hub, then once dry stick the mask down and spray the tire over it in dark gray; pure black looks unnatural. Take the mask off while the paint is still fresh.
