Replacement main gear wheels for the early production shape of the B-29 Superfortress bomber in 1:48, with tires made as weighted.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Boeing B-29 Superfortress was an American four-engined heavy bomber of the closing stage of the Second World War. Radial piston engines powered it and the crew worked in pressurized compartments, which was exceptional equipment for its day. The landing gear of an aircraft that big is visible on a finished model from every angle, and the shape of the wheels and the way they settle onto the surface decide the final impression more than most of the small details on the fuselage.
These are replacement main gear wheels in 1:48 in the shape matching the early production series of the aircraft. The tires are made as weighted, that is with a slight flattening where they bear on a surface. The manufacturer's marking on the box states which particular wheel pattern the item carries.
Cut the excess material off a little way from the part with a sharp blade and sand the remainder down carefully, so that the tread around the circumference of the tire does not get damaged. Wash and degrease the parts before painting, otherwise paint will not hold on the smooth surface. The flattened part of the tire belongs toward the ground, so turn the wheel when gluing and let it settle onto a flat surface across its whole face while the glue sets. The particular procedure for preparing the parts is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
It will be appreciated by modelers who build the B-29 in 1:48 and want the landing gear finished to the same standard as the rest of the model. The aircraft model, the paints and the glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
