About product

Eduard masking templates 1:48 for the BAC/SEPECAT Jaguar GR.1/GR.1A

This item is not a kit and not a resin part: they are pre-cut self-adhesive masks for spraying. Eduard makes them from yellow Japanese masking paper (kabuki), which holds well, can be stretched around a curve and leaves no adhesive behind once removed. The masks are die-cut to the particular shape of the glazing of the Jaguar GR.1/GR.1A in 1:48 scale, so cutting tape by eye falls away.

How to work with the masks

  • Wash and degrease the glazing first; a mask will not hold on a greasy surface.
  • Lay the pieces on with tweezers, one at a time, and press them down all the way around the frame with a wooden stick or a toothpick.
  • Spray the paint in thin coats: a heavy coat creeps under the edge and the line smears.
  • Remove the masks once the paint has dried rather than after it has fully cured, because the edge is then cleaner.
  • Cover the open areas inside the frames with tape or masking fluid; the set takes care of the shaped edges.

Who the set is for

For anyone building a Jaguar in 1:48 who wants sharp canopy frames without cutting by hand. The set saves time and frustration above all on curved canopies, where straight tape cannot be used without folding it. Eduard also offers a version designated TFace in the same range, which masks the glazing from the outside and the inside; this item is the standard version. The exact range of the contents, that is whether the set also includes wheel masks besides the glazing, is not stated here. The masks are also worth having for anyone who has painted the frames with a brush so far: a sprayed edge is sharp along its whole length and leaves no brush marks on the glass, which cannot be corrected under a clear coat.

The masks are supplied on a sheet to be popped out. Paints and glue are not included in the package. The paper is single-use: once removed it will not stick reliably again.
