Resin wheels for the BAe Hawk series 100 in 1:48 scale from CMK replace the plastic parts of the landing gear with castings that have a more faithful shape of the tire and of the hub.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not a model of an aircraft, but a resin accessory for an injection-molded kit. The set deals with a detail that is always in view on a finished model and is nevertheless usually simplified by the mold: the wheels of the landing gear. The castings have sharper transitions and a more readable shape of the hub, which shows mainly on a model built with the landing gear extended.
The BAe Hawk is a British two-seat subsonic aircraft originally intended for advanced pilot training. The combination of undemanding maintenance, good flying qualities and low operating costs made it one of the most widespread types of its category, and a number of air forces all over the world use it. The series 100 represents a modernized, combat-capable version with reworked avionics and a modified nose, which widened the possibilities of the type beyond a purely training role. The type is widely known thanks to its role with aerobatic teams as well.
Wash the castings with lukewarm soapy water before building. On wheels the casting blocks tend to be placed on the tread or on the contact surface; cut them off with a saw and level the surface carefully with abrasive paper, so that the wheel stands straight on the model. Use cyanoacrylate glue for gluing. It is practical to spray the wheel rims first and only then mask them with a circular mask and spray the tire, or else to go over the tire with a brush. At the end a fine dust pigment on the tread and a light wash into the grooves between the wheel rim and the tire help.
This is an accessory for modelers, not a standalone kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
