Wheels for the Bf-109 E under load in 1:48 scale replace the parts from a kit with shapes that match a tire compressed by the weight of a standing aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
A pair of main wheels cast with a sag in the lower part of the tire. The designation in the name points to the early E version, that is to the machines of the first years of the war, which had their own shape of hub and profile of tire. The accessory is fitted in place of the parts from the box.
Injection-molded wheels tend to be perfectly round, because they are easier to produce that way. A real machine, however, stands on tires that spread under the weight of the fuselage and the engine and flatten at the bottom. The difference is inconspicuous and yet essential: a model with a seated wheel looks as if it really stood on the ground, whereas a perfectly circular wheel looks as if it were floating a few millimeters above the surface.
Before painting, wash the wheel and free it of grease. With this type of part the casting remnant tends to be at the place of contact, so after cutting it off level the surface carefully and check that the wheel stands straight; otherwise the model will tilt. When seating it, watch that the flattened part faces downward and is parallel with the surface. Do not rub the tire with pure black; a period tire is closer to a dark gray with a hint of dust in the tread.
