Wheels for the Bf-109 K under load in 1:48 scale match the late form of the fighter and replace the roundly cast parts from the box.
Responsibility details are not available.
A resin replacement for the main wheels of the last production form of the German fighter. The letter K in the name has its meaning: late machines received larger main wheels than the early versions, which showed on the shape of the bulges in the upper surface of the wing too. Anyone who builds a late machine with parts matching an early one deprives himself of exactly this difference.
The growing weight of the fighter called during the war for a more robust landing gear. A larger tire needed more room, and so more pronounced bulges appeared on the wing. A model with a matching wheel is therefore not only about the detail of the tire: the overall proportion between the fuselage and the landing gear fits too, which the eye takes in before it manages to notice the particulars.
Wash the castings, so that no film from the mold stays on the surface. Cut the sprue off and level the contact surface so that both wheels stand in the same plane; asymmetry shows on a finished model as a tilt of the fuselage. Shorten the axle as needed and secure the joint with cyanoacrylate glue. Accentuate the tread on the tire with a dry brush with a lighter tone and let a little dust shade into the recesses, so that the wheel does not look freshly shod.
