This set from the Quickboost (Aires) brand in 1:48 scale holds separate exhaust stubs for the late versions of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 in the G and K series. It is not a kit of the airplane but a detail accessory that replaces the exhausts from the boxed kit with more finely cast resin parts with drilled mouths. The set is meant to raise the fidelity of a finished model.
The Messerschmitt Bf 109 was one of the most widespread fighters of the Second World War. The G (Gustav) and the late K (Kurfurst) versions were powered by the inverted twelve-cylinder Daimler-Benz DB 605. The exhaust stubs carried the gases away along the sides of the engine cowling, and their shape is one of the characteristic and easily visible features that catch the eye on a model at once.
First wash the parts free of mold release residue, separate them carefully from the casting blocks and bond them with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Wear respiratory protection while sanding. The drilled mouths of the exhausts come into their own once a dark shade is laid on and the metallic and rusty tones are brought out lightly with a wash.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted, as a resin detail set. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
