This item is not an aircraft model but an add-on set in 1:48 scale. The contents are a resin engine unit that replaces the simplified plastic part in the base kit. The manufacturer is the Czech brand Eduard, which makes resin accessories in its own premium range. The set makes sense above all where the modeler wants to leave the cowling open and show the engine as the main detail of the model.
The Messerschmitt Bf 109K-4 was the last version of this single-engined fighter family to be built in series. It differed from the older versions in a revised forward fuselage, a reworked cowling and a power unit of the DB 605D family. The engine bay is among the most complex places on the real aircraft: it is a dense network of piping, mounts and accessories that injection-molded plastic in this scale usually does not capture.
Wash the resin parts first with lukewarm water and detergent; the remains of the mold release agent would otherwise stop the paint from adhering. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a cutting disc and never break them off. Sand wet and protect your airways. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, as ordinary cement for plastic will not join resin. Before painting, apply a thin primer and build the engine up in layers: the base shade, a dark wash in the recesses and light drybrushing on the edges and the accessories. Fitting usually calls for modifying the plastic cowling parts, so follow the instructions and try everything dry first.
The set is an accessory, not a kit. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; the base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
