This resin set from Quickboost, a brand of the Czech maker Aires, brings faithfully cast exhaust stubs for a model of the German twin-engine Messerschmitt Bf 110E heavy fighter in 1:48 scale. It is not an airplane model but a detail accessory for more experienced modelers, replacing the solid plastic exhausts with a casting of finer shape and suggested openings. Both engine nacelles gain a more realistic look and take exhaust staining more easily.

The real subject

The Messerschmitt Bf 110 was a German twin-engine heavy fighter (Zerstörer) used from the beginning of the Second World War. The Bf 110E version was powered by Daimler-Benz inverted V12 engines, and the aircraft flew as an escort fighter, a fighter-bomber and a night fighter.

Tips for working with resin

First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water to remove mold release residue. Cut off the casting blocks with a saw and sand the cut surfaces with respiratory protection. Bond the parts with super glue (cyanoacrylate), not with plastic cement. Test the fit dry before painting, as resin may need a little cleaning up.
