Masking stencils for spraying the national insignia on models of the Bf 109E-1 and Bf 109E-3 in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Messerschmitt Bf 109 in the E form, known among modelers by the nickname Emil, was the main German fighter of the first years of the Second World War. The E-1 and E-3 forms are very close in shape and differ mainly in the armament in the wing, so one set of stencils covers both.
The extent of the sheet and the dimensions of the individual insignia are given in the manufacturer's instructions. The procedure is simple: the stencil defines the shape, the paint is applied through it and once it is lifted off the insignia is left directly in the finish, with no decal film laid on top.
The stencils are applied before spraying, onto a dry and smooth finish; on fresh paint they do not hold and they will pull it away as they come off. First degrease the surface, seat the stencil with tweezers, check its position against the panel lines and press the edges down well so that paint does not creep under them. Spray several thin coats instead of one heavy one, otherwise a ridge will form at the edge of the insignia. Lift the mask off shortly after the paint has dried, while the adhesive has not yet hardened.
For modelers bothered by the glossy shadow around an insignia on a decal and by its lifting on rivets and seams. A sprayed insignia lies in the finish, it stands up to matting and to accentuating panel lines and it does not wrinkle on curved surfaces. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
