About product

Eduard 1:48 Boeing F/A-18F Hornet — photo-etched STEEL seat belts

A photo-etched accessory in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer Eduard. It is not a kit of the aircraft but a small set of parts for the cockpit of a plastic model you have already built. It belongs to a smaller, mostly pre-painted range: it deals with the seat belts, not with a complete rebuild of the cockpit, which the manufacturer's more extensive full photo-etched sets take on. If you are looking for a set that will replace the instrument panel, the side consoles and the floor, this is not it.

What the set changes on the model

Molded straps on a plastic seat look flat and far too thick, and in a number of kits they are missing altogether. Photo-etched belts are as thin as foil, they can be bent over the edge of the seat pan and left hanging loose, so the seat finally looks occupied. The STEEL designation refers to the steel version of the etching — the material keeps its shape after bending and does not spring back flat, so the folds and buckles stay exactly where you put them. The parts are supplied pre-painted, so they do not have to be repainted.

Work tips

Separate the parts with a sharp scalpel on glass or on a hard surface, never with pliers, which will deform the edge. Make the bends in a bending tool or between two blades, so that the edge is sharp; the layer of color will take one proper fold, not repeated straightening. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue applied with a pin in a microscopic amount, as ordinary cement for plastic will not hold on metal. Do not overspray the pre-painted surfaces; when their sheen differs from the surroundings, a light pass of matte varnish and a discreet dark wash into the folds will even it out.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the two-seat Hornet in 1:48 scale
  • Those who want a quick improvement of the cockpit without repainting
  • Builds with the canopy open, where the seat is clearly visible
  • Beginners in working with photo-etched metal — belts are a rewarding first project

It is an accessory for a plastic model, not a kit. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package.

FAQ

It is not. It is a photo-etched accessory for the cockpit, and the plastic model itself has to be obtained separately.

No, the parts are pre-painted. There is no need to repaint them; at most you even the sheen out with matte varnish.

With cyanoacrylate glue in a minimal amount, applied with a pin. Cement for plastic does not hold on etched metal.

It is not. This set is smaller and aimed at the seat belts; full photo-etched sets take on the whole interior and have markedly more parts.
