A sheet of waterslide decals in 1:48 scale for a model of the Defiant. This was a British two-seat fighter whose main armament was carried in a powered turret behind the pilot instead of fixed guns in the wing. It is the turret that gives the model its characteristic silhouette and at the same time complicates the placement of some markings.
The set is not a kit or a photo-etched accessory. It holds printed markings with which you complete a finished model. You will use it when you want a scheme other than the box offers, or when the original decals have become unusable over the years.
Camouflage is sprayed through masks, so fine edges between the shades are left on the model. A decal will not bed down over them by itself. The method: overcoat the painted airframe with a gloss varnish, let it cure for a day, and only then apply the decals. Soak the motif in lukewarm water, let it stand on a towel and move it onto the model. Keep a thin layer of softening solution under the film, so the position can still be corrected.
On curved areas, help yourself with several doses of softener and with heat - an ordinary damp cloth warmed in water will relax the film and it will draw down. Never press into a soft decal with a brush, as it will tear. Finally wash everything with lukewarm water and even it out with a matte varnish matching the surface of period finishes.
The package holds decals, not a model. The paints, the varnishes and the softening solutions are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
