A 1:48 sheet for the fighter version of the Bristol Blenheim bomber. Five machines of British squadrons from 1939 and 1940, one of them from Ismailia in Egypt.
Responsibility details are not available.
The five options on the sheet belong to the Blenheim in the Mk.I version and to its fighter conversion. That came about out of necessity: at the end of the 1930s the Royal Air Force had no twin-engine fighter capable of night patrol, so a gun pack with machine guns was added under the fuselage of the production bomber. The resulting machine was slow, but it had the range and the crew that single-engine fighters did not offer.
The two oldest options come from Hendon airfield in north London, one from the spring and the other from the summer of 1939, that is still from pre-war service. Then follow machine K7090 with the code ZK-V of No. 25 Squadron, North Weald airfield, February 1940, and machine L1327 with the code RO-I of No. 29 Squadron, Digby airfield, June 1940. These units were among the first night fighter squadrons.
The last option heads for the Mediterranean. Machine K7107 with the code VT-B served with No. 30 Squadron at Ismailia by the Suez Canal and carries the date 11 April 1940. Egypt was a natural place for the Blenheim, because its range suited patrolling over extensive and thinly settled territory.
For the two machines from Hendon the sheet gives no fuselage number and works only with the squadron code, so in looking up further details you have to start from the squadron designation. The remaining three machines are identified in full. The shades for the finish and the plastic parts are not sold with the sheet.
