British Light Utility Car 10HP, 5th Bn., Dorsetshire Reg., 43rd (Wessex) Infantry Division is a finished model of the British light utility car in 1:48 scale from Tamiya.
Responsibility details are not available.
A finished model from the Tamiya collection. The car is assembled and carries a finish and unit markings, so it can be used right away, with no gluing and no spraying.
The British light utility cars of the 10HP class came about by adapting a civilian car chassis, and soldiers called them the Tilly. They had rear-wheel drive, an open load area with a canvas cover, and were meant above all for liaison runs, for delivering small supplies and for moving people. In rough terrain they lacked cross-country ability, so in the front line vehicles with all-wheel drive replaced them, while the Tillys stayed on made-up roads and on airfields. Over 38000 were built during the war. The cab kept its civilian shape, the military part being mainly the body behind it.
The finish refers to the 5th Battalion, Dorsetshire Regiment within the 43rd (Wessex) Infantry Division, that is to a formation which from the summer of 1944 took part in the fighting in northwest Europe. The model therefore suits scenes from Normandy and the advance that followed. In a display case it comes into its own next to infantry figures or trucks of the same scale.
The model comes finished and painted; it needs neither assembly nor a finish.
