Four CATM-114 training missiles in the form with a laser guidance head, in 1:48 scale. The set is an accessory for a model of a helicopter and does not make up a model by itself. Its point lies in the front part of the missile: the head with an optical window is precisely the detail that comes out only roughly in injection-molded plastic and is at the same time the most in view on a finished model. A resin casting holds the sharp transition of the head, the fine facets and the small edges of the fins, so the armament stops being the weakest place in the build.
The CATM-114 is the training version of the missile of the AGM-114 series, which is not fired from the rail. The form with a working laser head lets a crew practice finding and tracking an illuminated target without live munitions being used. In shape it corresponds to the combat missile, and it differs mainly in what is inside and in the markings. Missiles of the AGM-114 series appear on attack helicopters with rail launchers.
The key step is separating the part from the casting block or from the printing supports. Do not use side cutters, as resin snaps off under their pressure and is apt to take a piece of the part with it. Cut with a fine-toothed saw or with a cutting disc in a small drill, a little away from the part, and sand the remainder down wet. Proceed especially carefully at the head, so as not to wipe the shape of the window away. Before painting, wash the release agent and the sanding slurry off the parts. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, ideally applied drop by drop with a pin.
The set is an accessory, not a kit. It is supplied unpainted. Glue, paints and the basic model are not included in the package.
