An injection-molded plastic kit of the French touring and liaison aircraft Caudron C.635 Simoun in 1:48 scale from Dora Wings. The model captures an elegant low-wing aircraft with an enclosed cabin. Besides the plastic, the box contains photo-etched parts, self-adhesive masks for the glazing and a decal sheet for several schemes.
The Caudron Simoun was a French four-seat touring aircraft of the 1930s, built in several versions. It became famous as a fast and aerodynamically clean machine: the Air Bleu mail company used it and it made its name with a series of long-distance record flights linked, among others, with the famous French airmen and airwomen of the day. In the Second World War it served as a liaison and courier aircraft of the French Air Force. The C.635 version was the production form with an improved cabin and an inverted inline Renault engine.
The glazed cabin is the dominant feature of the model: assemble and paint the cockpit and the photo-etched parts carefully, then attach the glazing and mask it with the masks provided. Glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. Glue the plastic with liquid modeling cement, even out the surface with primer and apply the paint with an airbrush. On civil schemes the glossy, colorful finishes stand out, so a good base and a final gloss coat pay off; the military versions carry a more restrained camouflage. Bring out the fine panel transitions with a restrained wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
