A resin accessory set that will replace the landing gear wheels when building a model of the helicopter in 1:48 scale. The manufacturer describes it as universal, so it is intended for use across the forms of the subject. The tires have deformation under load cast in, so the finished model touches down on its base with a flattened area.
The CH-47 Chinook is a heavy transport helicopter with a pair of main rotors arranged in tandem. It has served since the 1960s carrying cargo and people and is used in many countries. The landing gear is fixed, has four wheels and does not retract, so it is permanently visible in full on a model. The machine is among the heaviest helicopters in its category, which on a parked aircraft shows as a visible spreading of the tires where they touch down.
With fixed landing gear that does not retract anywhere, the model is practically always displayed on the ground. A flattened contact patch is therefore the only option that matches reality, and the difference against a perfectly round plastic wheel is pronounced when seen from the side. At the same time you have to make sure all the wheels touch down evenly, otherwise the model stands crooked.
Wash the casting in lukewarm soapy water and let it dry thoroughly. Cut the casting block off with a saw away from the flattened area and sand the remainder. Before gluing, stand the wheels on a flat board and check whether they all touch it. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue. After primer, spray the hub shade, mask the hub and finish the tire in dark gray. A helicopter operated from unprepared surfaces will take a more pronounced dust deposit on the wheels.
The set is an accessory for building a model, not a standalone model. It is supplied unpainted; paints and glue are not included in the package.
