The Brengun 1:48 plastic kit of the Soviet aerial target 16KhA captures the version of the cruise missile adapted for trials and target flights.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:48 scale capturing the Soviet unmanned weapon of the 16KhA series in the version intended as an aerial target. It is therefore neither a crewed aircraft nor a combat missile in strike configuration but a machine serving in trials. Striking red and white schemes are typical of target and trial examples, and they make the model an unusually colorful specimen for a display case.
The 16Kh series came about after the Second World War in the design bureau of Vladimir Chelomey and built on Soviet work with the captured German Fi 103 missile. The 16KhA version carried a pair of pulsejets side by side on pylons at the tail of the body and had an extended horizontal tail surface ending in vertical surfaces at the tips. It was launched by being dropped from a carrier bomber. The whole program ran at the turn of the 1940s and 1950s and ended without introduction into series service, but some of the examples built served in flight trials.
What takes most work is the longitudinal seam of the body: fill it thinly, sand it out to nothing and check it with a gloss primer. Glue the engine nacelles and their pylons along the axes, so that both are symmetrical, and let them dry on a flat surface. Red and white trial schemes call for a proper white base and precise masking — red paint over a gray primer loses its saturation. The model shows to advantage on a stand suggesting the attachment under a carrier aircraft.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
