A detail accessory in 1:48 scale from the Hungarian brand SBS Model. The package holds two resin seats for the cockpit of the Curtiss P-36 fighter, or rather of its export version, the Hawk 75. The castings are thin-walled, so a seat comes across as a shell of sheet metal and not as a solid block – that is a detail which in an open cockpit is visible at first glance. The set does not replace a kit; it is intended for finishing off a plastic model already bought. The set is shaped for the Clear Prop Models kit, so we recommend checking the match with the model you are building before you buy.
The Curtiss P-36 Hawk is an American all-metal fighter with a radial engine and retractable landing gear, which formed the transition between the biplanes of the 1930s and modern fighters. Under the export designation Hawk 75 it reached a number of foreign users and in its various versions differed in engine and armament. In design terms the later P-40 with a V engine came out of it. On this type the cockpit is fairly well accessible, so the fittings of the interior have a large share in the final impression.
Wash the seats with lukewarm water and detergent to rid them of release agent. Cut the casting block off with a saw and sand the surface wet; with thin shells, work carefully so that nothing cracks. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). It is best to paint them away from the model: a primer, the base shade of the cockpit, a dark wash in the corners and fine dry brushing of the edges. Belts are not a matter of course with seats of this type – if you want them, reckon on obtaining them separately. Only glue the finished seat into the fuselage afterwards, so that it does not get fouled with paint while the surroundings are being finished.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
