A plastic kit of the light fighter Curtiss-Wright CW-21 in the demonstrator form, in 1:48 scale. Dora Wings concentrates on types that the big brands leave aside, and this machine is a good example of that, because you will not find it among ordinary kits. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The CW-21 arose in the second half of the 1930s as a light interceptor. The design relied on low weight and a radial engine with a good ratio of power to weight, which was to give the machine an exceptional rate of climb and the ability to climb quickly to approaching bombers. It was precisely the rate of climb that was the main selling point with which the manufacturer offered the aircraft to foreign customers. The demonstrator machine served for demonstration flights and became the basis for the later production forms. The type reached service in greater numbers outside the United States, where the fighting at the beginning of the war showed that a light structure paid for with weak armor has its limits against the opponents of the day.
Begin the build with the cockpit, which has to be finished and painted before you glue the fuselage halves together. Always try the parts dry first and glue them with a thin cement for plastic, which is drawn into the seam by capillary action. The radial engine is well seen on this type, so it pays to bring the cylinders out with a dark wash and to set the heads off in a different shade. Before spraying, fill and sand the seams on the fuselage over, as every piece of unfinished work will show once it is sprayed. Apply the primer in a thin layer, so that the fine panel lines are not lost, and use the gloss varnish under the decals only on the places where the decals will go.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
