This detail set from the Czech manufacturer Aires brings a complete resin model of the liquid-cooled Daimler-Benz DB 601E/N aircraft engine in 1:48 scale. The set combines fine resin castings with photo-etched parts and serves to fit out the engine section of the fighters this power plant drove. It is not a model of an aircraft but an accessory for an exposed engine.
The DB 601 was an inverted V12 with direct fuel injection, one of the key German aircraft power plants of the Second World War. The E and N versions drove a number of Messerschmitt fighter variants; an exposed engine with its exhausts and accessories makes a striking diorama feature.
Wash the parts to remove the mold release agent, cut off the casting blocks and bond them with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Wear respiratory protection while sanding. The engine comes into its own with the layering of metallic shades, a wash in the recesses and a light emphasis on the wiring and piping; fix the photo-etched parts with super glue.
Supplied as an unassembled and unpainted detail set in resin and photo-etch. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
