A photo-etched detail set in 1:48 scale for the de Havilland Chipmunk T.20 trainer, an accessory for finishing a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Chipmunk is a two-seat trainer low-wing aircraft with tandem cockpits, classic tailwheel landing gear and an air-cooled inverted inline Gipsy Major engine. It came about in Canada in the second half of the 1940s and became the basic trainer of a number of air arms for decades. The T.20 designation belongs to the military training version.
The set brings photo-etched parts from thin metal sheet. Photo-etch can produce elements thinner and crisper than can be molded from plastic, which is why fine parts of a model are replaced or completed with it. The elements are designed for a particular kit in 1:48 scale; its designation is given in the manufacturer's instructions for the set, so check it before buying.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface and level the remains of the tab with a fine-cut file. Use a bender or two blades for bending, and the edge will come out straight. They are glued with cyanoacrylate applied in a vanishing amount, and on larger parts two-part epoxy holds more reliably. Degrease the metal before painting and spray a primer, or the paint will rub off while the model is handled. Lay small elements out on a light surface in advance, so they do not get lost.
For modelers who want to take a smaller trainer down to the detail and have tweezers, a sharp blade and patience for it.
The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
