In a kit a bolted joint tends to be only a shallow bump which is largely lost once the paint is sprayed and the varnish applied. A separate part, by contrast, has a real shape: the head stands above the surface, the washer beneath it runs around as a thin ring and breaks the light on itself. The nut in the set also makes it possible to carry the joint through both sides of the part, that is where the structure passes right through, on frames, brackets and shock absorber mounts.
Choose the size from the subject and from the surrounding shapes on the part, not from the scale of the model; hold the part against the place first and compare it with its surroundings. Sand the original relief flat so that the part seats over its whole face, because a tilted head is more conspicuous on a finished model than a missing one. For an accurate position, drill a shallow recess. It is glued with a minute drop of cyanoacrylate glue applied on the tip of a wire at the place of installation, never onto the part itself, otherwise the surplus spreads around the washer.
Work with fine-tipped tweezers over a light surface with a rim, because a part of this size is hunted in vain once it falls on the floor; an individual part carries well on the moistened tip of a toothpick. Painting is easier before gluing, for instance on double-sided tape. The model, paints, glue and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
