A set of painting masks for a model of the British de Havilland Tiger Moth training biplane in 1:48 scale. The masks are applied before spraying.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Tiger Moth was a British training biplane with fixed landing gear, fabric covering and two open cockpits one behind the other. That is exactly why masking on this model is a different job than on a fighter with a large canopy: there is little glazing, but what there is consists of small windscreens on which any paint that runs under shows at once. The exact scope of the masks in the set is given in the enclosed instructions.
The masks are cut to match the parts of the kit, so there is no cutting of tape with a knife on the model itself. You stick them on the area you want to keep clean, spray around them and peel them off once the paint is dry. The edge then comes out sharp and the same on both sides of the model, which rarely succeeds with hand work.
Degrease the area before applying them; on a greasy surface the mask will not bed down. Press the edges with a toothpick or a blunt stick, so that paint does not run under them. Spray perpendicular to the surface and in thin coats; a heavy coat sprayed from the side gets under the edge more easily. Peel the masks off shortly after spraying, not several days later, when the paint holds on their edge as firmly as on the model.
The set is an accessory to a kit. Paints, glue and the model are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
